Image of human lung anatomy structure Transparent PNG

This image depicts a human lung, which is responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body. The lungs are made up of two sides that branch out from the chest, with a large cavity in between them. The left lung has a larger cavity than the right lung, which is more narrow and smaller. The lungs also have a branching network of airways that extend out to the trachea, or windpipe, and continue down into the bronchial tubes. These airways are surrounded by smooth muscle tissue, and there are many tiny hair-like structures called cilia that help to move the mucus and foreign particles out of the lungs and into the mouth.
